My obsession with real estate just ratcheted up a notch when I discovered GreenHomesForSale.com. Now, instead of looking for homes in areas where we dream to retire someday, I am now being enticed to pack up and live a healthier life in one of the green or healthy homes listed on this wonderful site.
The site is very popular. They say they get 200,000 page views per month (October 2005) and traffic is increasing every month. I’m not surprised. It’s one of the most user-friendly real estate sites I’ve visited.
The types of homes you’ll find on the site: Green Homes, Healthy Homes, Natural Homes, Solar Homes, Rammed Earth, Strawbale Homes, Adobe Homes, Off the Grid Homes.
The homes I found were beautiful; some of them gorgeous, many are located in lovely areas with a few perched atop gorgeous mountains where the air is pristine. Most have acres of land to roam and breathe fresh air. One handcrafted log home is located on 8 acres – an island paradise - on Lake Mooselookmeguntic near Rangely, Maine. My favorite is a story and 1/2 cape on 7 acres in Hadley, Massachusetts designed by someone with multiple chemical sensitivities.
However, all are not situated in remote areas. I found a very cute and reasonably priced $149,900 newly constructed home located within a suburban ecologically friendly community in Silar City, North Carolina.
The site offers a Resources Page filled with valuable links to research, materials, resources, design, and rating systems. Worth taking a look and adding to your Favorites for future reference.
Oh, yes I did find one Buckminster Fuller style geodesic dome in Stockbridge, Michigan.
