By guest blogger Gary Lovelace, Austin, TX showroom manager

This Saturday, I attended the 59th annual Parade of Homes in Austin, Texas. This wonderful event continues through May 11th.

It is always a treat to see these gorgeous houses knowing that everyone involved puts forth so much effort to dazzle us with the newest innovations and ideas in creating the most unique living environment. This year, five homes were presented featuring five builders with their teams of designers, decorators, landscapers and many others eager to show off their skill.  All five show homes are located on one of seven hilltops with stunning views of the Pedernales River, surrounded by reserve Texas Hill Country land.

The first home that you are presented with as you enter the development is a beautiful 2-story contemporary style home by Seven Custom Homes. With five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, four living areas and a three car garage this home has plenty room for entertaining.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Terri, from our neighbor business California Closets! They designed and installed the closet systems in two of this year’s show houses. I loved that this home though clean and contemporary, still had a warm and inviting even rustic feel to it. The rich tones and music related art and decor perfectly encapsulated the spirit of Austin.

Next you walk through the relaxing zen-like courtyard of a modern styled home. It exudes function and harmony, which are at the forefront of every design aspect built by Silverton Custom Homes.

This home brags large windows, a spacious layout and a private courtyard oasis with a water feature cascading down the courtyard wall. My favorite feature of this house is in the children’s wing (yes a wing dedicated to the children).

One room has an elegantly designed bunk bed built into the back wall of the room.  Stairs lead to the upper bunk and it is flanked by a built in book case, along with storage drawers built under the lower bunk. How awesome that would be with organic mattresses from The Clean Bedroom? ;)

Next up is a splendid transitional home by Jenkins Custom Homes with what I think of as an almost "nordic-flare" to it. Spacious with a wrap around design four bedrooms, four baths and a media room upstairs complete with a state of the art sound system.

I loved the use of dark rustic woods in the trim, furniture and doors. This home also utilized the hallway well with a long row of dark wood bookcases, one of which opens to a reveal a secret lower level wine bar, giving an almost Harry Potter feel.

Further down we come to a dramatic four bedroom, three and a half bath home by Lake Travis Builders. This house was built for entertaining. Featuring a great room, large bar, kitchen with curved island and breakfast room all connected and wrapping around the patio, which houses an outdoor kitchen and swimming pool. Large doors allow the freedom to enjoy the patio and view anytime. The single level floor plan makes entertaining a large host of friends a snap.

Last we have my favorite home, also by Silverton Custom Homes. The exterior of this five bedroom, four and a half bath home has an old world European feel with modern lines and artistically placed brickwork. After entering I was taken aback by the use of large beams and a warm inviting color scheme. I did not get to ask if the beams are re-purposed or not. If so, that would be another win in my book!

This home features a large kitchen adjoining the family room, and a secondary smaller kitchen for easy everyday cooking. ParadeofhomesMy favorite feature of this home is the unique use of an upper level space over the foyer.

It is long and thin, like a hallway. One side has small windows looking out over the front yard, while the other has curtained windows that look down into the family room.

The space is decorated in rich plum tones and gold curtains on the family room side making it the ideal hideaway to just sit, relax and read a book.

I hope you, too, will take some time to enjoy this wonderful event and see these wonderful homes on display until May 11th. For more information, check out Parade of Homes Austin via their website or Facebook
