A Need to Relax

Let's face it. We all need to relax, too often are we driving around in our cars, drinking our premium coffees and accelerating through life at a hurried pace. A very amusing analysis of the concept of time was told me by Ted Duquette, co-founder of The Clean Bedroom, he said “A nanosecond is the space of time between the light turning green and the person behind you to blow their horn.” Sure, it makes you laugh, but it's very true.

We need to take time in our lives to close our laptops, switch off our Blackberries, unplug our iPods, and just completely relax. Easier said than done? Well, not really. In our showroom down in Wickford, RI we have a beautiful piece of furniture, our hand-crafted Narragansett Daybed. I mean, this thing is just stunning! We have a Naturally Organic: Organic Cotton and Natural Rubber Futon set on ours in the showroom. When people come in, they immediately are gravitated to it, sitting down and looking out to the sea, with a smile growing across their face. They close their eyes, lean back onto our big, 26” x 26” Amenity pillows and I can actually see them relaxing. It's wonderful and I certainly feel proud to be able to offer people a chance to let tensions melt away, even if they don't buy anything! Being able to provide that is really a wonderful thing and it makes my day great! So, take a look for yourself and come relax down in Wickford!

Last week I told you all about our recent trip to Las Vegas and our visits to two tradeshows - Las Vegas Market and ABC Kids Expo.

Tuesday, as I mentioned in last week's blog, was spent at the Las Vegas Market where we saw lots of great furniture and bedding items - some of which you will soon see in our e-commerce store, so be on the lookout.

After our trip to Fremont St. for dinner and its famous lightshow on Tuesday night, we arose refreshed, bright-eyed and ready for ABC Kids on Wednesday morning.

Although set up vastly differently than Tuesday's event, we were not disappointed by the show. Some of our favorite vendors were there including Naturepedic and Natura. And they were delighted to see and talk with us, solidifying partnerships and talking shop. However, we were especially excited to discover some new vendors as we walked the floor. In short we:

• Scouted out a great new organic mattress resource - wait until we unveil it! You won't believe the quality at such an unbeatable price.
• Stumbled upon some great new organic baby blankets and sheets in yummy and fun colors - from our friends at Eaz-Z-Wraps.
• Got a look at a great new Amish crib we'll tell you about soon.
• Bought some all-natural toys for the kids who visit our Kittery, ME organic mattress showroom.
• Squished and cuddled the most adorable organic toys - your little one will just have to have one!

Suffice to say, you'll soon be reaping the benefits of our hard, hard week in Vegas (I say with a smile) as we unveil some great new products in our store. We can't wait for you to see what we found and for your family to begin their journeys toward more healthy nights of sleep. For this privilege, I say "thank you, sin city!"

Finally, our quest for the perfect kapok pillow is over

We've been on the hunt for a kapok pillow supplier that could make a superior quality pillow and keep up with our demand. It hasn't been easy.

There are only a few manufacturers to choose from but we're happy to announce that we are now selling the best quality kapok pillow in the U.S. It's made by Zafu Designs and our comparison shopping gives this pillow an A+ for quality of the kapok fill content and superior outer casings. Yes there are two encasings, each with their own zipper. The casings are made with 100% organic cotton fabric that is woven to be dust mite allergen proof, with a 4.25 pore size. That's impressive.

New to kapok pillows?

Kapok is a completely organic fiber that comes from the pod of the kapok tree that grows in the rainforest. It was once used as stuffing for life preservers because it floats. It makes great filling for pillows because it is light and fluffy.

The fluffy fiber is completely vegan. Kapok is hypoallergenic, good for people who are allergic to wool, cotton, or latex.  A kapok pillow has the same characteristics of an organic wool pillow but does not compress, feels soft like down but supportive like wool, yet it doesn't compress like down.
